06/08/2012: A military patrol spotted and opened fire on assailants planting a landmine on the roadside between Yuksekova and Esendere districts, Hakkari province, Turkey. One soldier and one assailant were killed in the exchange of fire; there were no reported injuries. No group claimed responsibility, but sources attributed the unsuccessful bombing to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
