Incident Summary:

12/19/2012: Assailants kidnapped Francis Colump, a French engineer, in Rimi town, Katsina state, Nigeria. The kidnappers stormed Colump's residence, killing a neighbor and a guard and injuring a third person, before abducting Colump. Colump escaped on November 16, 2013. Ansaru (Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan) claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that the attack was executed in response to French military action in Mali.
