Incident Summary:

04/03/2013: Gunmen opened fire on the 40th Infantry Battalion of the Philippines Army in Ulandang, North Cotabato province, Philippines. Soldiers returned fire and wounded three assailants. A spokesperson for the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that a recent spate of attacks on Army personnel were in retaliation for the torture and killing of an unnamed BIFM member by soldiers. Army officials denied having any knowledge or record of such an incident.
