Incident Summary:
07/01/2013: Assailants opened fire on police officers in Tral town, Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir state, India. One police officer was killed and three others were wounded in the attack. Three assailants were also killed when police returned fire. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, authorities attributed the attack to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and stated that it was likely an act of revenge for the killing of the group's members by army personnel in May 2013.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
