Incident Summary:

07/29/2013: Assailants kidnapped Paolo Dall'Oglio, a prominent Italian Jesuit priest, in Raqqah city, Raqqah governorate, Syria. Dall'Oglio had been attempting to open negotiations with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The outcome of the kidnapping is unknown. On August 12th, 2013, there were reports of his execution by ISIS; however, other sources state that the victim is alive and still being held by the group. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident.
