08/12/2013: Assailants set fire to buses at the Homer I. Mercado (HIM) Transportation company in Pagsanjan municipality, Laguna province, Philippines. No one was injured in the assault; however, the fire damaged 11 buses, valued at approximately $1, 225, 000. No group claimed responsibility for the attack; however, authorities suspect the arson was either carried out by the New People's Army (NPA) or rivals within the transportation union.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
