Incident Summary:
05/08/2014: An explosive device detonated underneath the Carlton Hotel in Aleppo city, Aleppo governorate, Syria. The hotel was being used by Syrian military forces. At least 14 soldiers were killed and dozens more civilians were injured in the blast; in addition, the blast completely destroyed the hotel and damaged several other buildings. The Islamic Front (Syria) claimed responsibility for the incident.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
