Incident Summary:
09/16/2014: Assailants attacked Muhanga village, North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This was one of two villages targeted in North Kivu on the same day. At least one person was killed and 93 others were abducted across the two incidents. All 93 hostages escaped and returned to their homes on September 19, 2014. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attacks to the Nduma Defense of Congo (NDC).

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
