Incident Summary:

01/26/2015: Assailants kidnapped an unknown number of residents in Barwanat al-Kabira village, Diyala governorate, Iraq. At least 71 people were shot and killed a short distance from the village while the remainder escaped. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources suspected that Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was involved. Survivors also reported that the assailants stated they were avenging the martyred members of the volunteer corps.
