06/21/2016: Assailants threw a grenade at a Somali National Army (SNA) checkpoint in Via-Wajeer neighborhood, Merca, Lower Shebelle, Somalia. At least one person was killed and six others were injured in the blast. No group claimed responsibility; however sources suspected that the attack was carried out by Al-Shabaab.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
