01/01/2017: Assailants opened fire on Amidou Tamboura in Sibe, Sahel, Burkina Faso. Tamboura, an imam and former Ansarul Islam member, was killed in the assault. Ansar al-Islam (Burkina Faso) claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that the victim was targeted for working with "enemies of Islam."
