03/01/2017: Assailants attacked an oil well in Kirkuk, Iraq. This was one of two related attacks targeting oil wells in Kirkuk on this date. Security forces repelled the attacks, killing 16 assailants across both attacks. No group claimed responsibility for the incidents; however, sources attributed the attacks to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
