03/03/2017: Assailants threw an explosive device at the residence of Elfa De Jesus in Canlapwas, Catbalogan district, Samar, Philippines. De Jesus, a local village chairperson, was not harmed but at least two people were injured in the blast. This was one of two attacks carried out by the same assailants on this day. No group claimed responsibility for the incidents.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
