04/21/2017: Two assailants threw grenades at a mosque in Talayan, Maguindanao, Philippines. At least eight people, including the former mayor of Talayan, Ali Midtimbang, were injured in the attack. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources attributed the attack to the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM).

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
