09/05/2017: Assailants opened fire on Gauri Lankesh at her residence in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Lankesh, a prominent journalist and activist, was killed in the attack. A Hindu extremist claimed responsibility for the incident and stated "I didn’t do it for money. I agreed to do it because her views were anti-Hindu.”
