Incident Summary:

12/03/2017: Assailants opened fire on Dr. Walter Reopert near the Erta Ale Volcano in Zone 2 district, Afar, Ethiopia. Reopert, a German tourist, was killed and his guide was injured in the assault. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources suspected that the attack was carried out by the Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front.
