This was one of two related attacks targeting volunteer fighters in Tall Safouk on this date. Thirteen volunteer fighters were killed across both attacks; additionally, the assailants sustained an undetermined number of casualties. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incidents.
