01/16/2018: Assailants attempted to extort civilians in Palo, Marayag, Davao Oriental, Philippines. The assailants then opened fire on responding security forces, and four assailants were killed in the ensuing clash. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources attributed the attack to the New People's Army (NPA).
