Incident Summary:
02/03/2018: Assailants armed with a shoulder-launched missile shot down a Russian Air Force Sukhoi 25SM Fighter Jet on patrol over Murrat al-Numan, Idlib, Syria. After the pilot landed on the ground, he was able to shoot two assailants before detonating a grenade on himself to avoid capture. Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham claimed responsibility and stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for Russian airstrikes in Idlib.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
