Incident Summary:

05/11/2018: Assailants opened fire on a tourist vehicle at Virunga National Park near Kibati, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A park ranger, identified as Rachel Masika Baraka, was killed and three other people, including Bethan Davies and Robert Jesty, British tourists, and their driver, were abducted in the assault. The driver was injured and released shortly after the kidnapping while the two British hostages were released on May 13, 2018. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attack to Mayi Mayi.
