Incident Summary:
05/24/2018: Assailants, including suicide bombers, attacked Hanaf, Kirkuk, Iraq. This was one of two related attacks targeting two different villages in southwestern Kirkuk on this date. At least 13 people, including two security personnel and 11 assailants, were killed and 15 others and an unknown number of assailants were injured in the ensuing clashes. No group claimed responsibility for the incidents; however, sources attributed the attacks to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
