Incident Summary:

06/17/2018: Assailants attacked civilians travelling on Baghdad-Kirkuk road in Injanah, Kifri Diyala, Iraq. At least three people were killed and seven others were abducted during the attack. The outcome of the kidnapping is unknown. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in order to coerce the Iraqi government to release Sunni Muslim women from prison. Sources also stated that residents were targeted because they had sided with government forces in past conflicts.
