Incident Summary:
09/16/2018: Assailants opened fire on an Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) position in Movaramo, Ituri, Democratic Republic of the Congo. At least twelve people, including six soldiers and six civilians, were killed in the assault. This was one of three similar attacks in Ituri on the same day. At least eight people were injured and 31 people were abducted across all three incidents. At least 30 hostages were released the same day while the fate of the remaining hostage is unknown. No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2
There must be evidence of an intention to coerce, intimidate, or convey some other message to a larger audience (or audiences) than the immediate victims. It is the act taken as a totality that is considered, irrespective if every individual involved in carrying out the act was aware of this intention. Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
