Incident Summary:
11/14/2018: Assailants attacked a police base in Farah Rud, Farah, Afghanistan. At least five assailants and two police officers were killed while seven assailants and three officers were injured in the attack. In addition, the assailants took an unknown number of people hostage. The outcome of the abduction is unknown. This was one of four related attacks that occurred in Farah within 24 hours. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators.
