Incident Summary:

03/23/2019: A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of the Ministry of Labor and Public Works Complex in Shingani, Mogadishu, Somalia. Following the blast, four additional assailants entered the compound and opened fire while a second explosives-laden vehicle detonated at another part of the compound near Banaadir police station. In addition to the five assailants, at least 11 people, including Deputy Minister Saqar Ibrahim Abdalla, were killed and 17 people were injured in the blasts and ensuing clash. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for registering soldiers and spies to combat the group, as well as for reconstructing the National Theater in violation of Islamic law.
