Incident Summary:

08/19/2019: Assailants attacked a military detachment in Koutougou, Sahel, Burkina Faso. At least 24 soldiers were killed and several other soldiers went missing in the ensuing clash. Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) and the Al-Barnawi faction of Boko Haram, also known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), separately claimed responsibility for the attack.
