Incident Summary:
09/11/2019: Assailants raided Mitacata neighborhood, Quiterajo, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. This was one of three related attacks in Cabo Delgado on the same day. At least eight people, including Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) officers, were killed and a health center and 70 houses were set on fire across all three incidents. Additionally, two people were abducted, and the outcome of the kidnapping is unknown. No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
