Incident Summary:
12/06/2019: Assailants armed with firearms and machetes attacked Marere, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. At least 12 people, including 10 Defence and Security Forces (SDS) soldiers and two civilians, were killed and an unknown number of women were abducted in the assault. The outcome of the kidnapping is unknown. The Central Africa Province of the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the incident.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
