Incident Summary:

02/19/2020: An assailant opened fire on his mother in their home in Hanau, Hesse, Germany. The victim was killed and the assailant was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This was one of three coordinated attacks in Hanau on the same day. Tobias Rathjen, an anti-immigrant extremist, claimed responsibility for the incidents through a manifesto in which he denounced migrants and called for the "annihilation" of people from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
