05/17/2020: Assailants opened fire on civilians in Gajiganna, Borno, Nigeria. At least 20 civilians and an unknown number of assailants were killed and 14 other people were injured in the ensuing clash. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the incident to the Al-Barnawi faction (Islamic State West Africa Province-ISWAP) of Boko Haram.

Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
