Incident Summary:
05/20/2020: An explosive device detonated targeting the vehicle of General Ali Hersi Barre in Hodan, Mogadishu, Somalia. General Barre, a police commander and the national police health department acting chief, was not harmed as he was not in the vehicle; however, one bodyguard was killed and at least three police officers were injured in the blast. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attacked and stated that General Ali Hersi Barre was targeted for his affiliation with the federal government.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
