Incident Summary:
06/17/2020: Assailants attacked the prefectural office in Dire, Timbuktu, Mali. Three people, including the sub-prefect of Dire, Sidya Coulibaly, the sub-prefect of Dangha, Oumar Traore, and a soldier were abducted. The soldier escaped a short time later, while one civilian was killed and two civilians were injured in the ensuing clash. Traore was released later the same day, and Coulibaly was released on June 20, 2020. No group claimed responsibility for the incident.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
