Incident Summary:

12/03/2020: Assailants attacked the town center of Datu Piang, Maguindanao, Philippines. There were no reported casualties. The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for "illegal activities" conducted in the town, including the distribution of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs. Also, sources noted that one of the political officials in the region allegedly hired the services of the assailants to attack the town center to favor his political status. Additionally, local residents stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the arrest of the assailants' family members by the local police. Sources also attributed the attack to the Maute Group.
