Incident Summary:

12/12/2020: Assailants attacked Askira, Borno, Nigeria. Security forces responded to the assault. At least two assailants and one security official were killed and two soldiers and an unknown number of assailants were injured in the ensuing clash. The Al-Barnawi faction (Islamic State West Africa Province-ISWAP) of Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that the targeted town had geographic importance for the Nigerian military, noting its proximity to other towns frequently attacked by the group and the military's use of it for supply lines.
