Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising event held on March 9, 2022 for all members of the University of Maryland community. Students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and alumni are invited to join the largest day of giving because we are all Terps! The goal is to raise critical funding and engage our community to advance the mission of the University of Maryland.

START Giving

Since 2005, START has produced empirical research using state-of-the-art theories, methods and data from the social and behavioral sciences to improve understanding of the origins, dynamics and effects of terrorism, including international and domestic violent extremism; the effectiveness and impacts of counterterrorism and CVE; and other matters of global and national security.

START incorporates this research into its rigorous education and training initiatives. START teaches, mentors and trains the next generation of national security scholars and practitioners through curricular and experiential learning. START emphasizes a variety of approaches to training and education, offering a wide range of opportunities for learners at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as for non-degree seeking students or professionals, including:

All of START’s efforts support its mission to advance science-based knowledge about the human causes and consequences of terrorism, responses to terrorism, and related phenomena, and to serve as a leading resource for homeland security policymakers and practitioners.

Donations during Giving Day, and year-round, allow START to serve as an objective, transparent and rigorous source of knowledge on important but highly politicized security issues further complicated by current trends of misinformation.
