Abstract:

Erica Chenoweth (Wesleyan University) and Laura Dugan (University of Maryland) will generate new research findings regarding the conditions under which different terrorism-relevant policies in the United States have been effective in reducing terrorism. Towards this goal, Chenoweth and Dugan will compile a database of terrorism-relevant measures taken by the Federal government in the United States, using a well-tested strategy for data collection employing automated text analysis software and perform statistical analyses to estimate the effects of different policies on the frequency and intensity of terrorist incidents.
