START Director Gary LaFree and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Thomas Pickering recently co-chaired a U.S.-Russia Inter-Academy seminar on terrorism and violent extremism.  The workshop, which took place in Moscow, was coordinated by the Russian National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and the Russian Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (IEA).

The workshop included sessions on the changing political landscape between the United States and Russia, addressing terrorism and violent extremism in the U.S.-Russia context, methods for studying terrorism and violent extremism, pathways to radical extremism and strategies for countering violent extremism.
