WHO WE ARE
The Unconventional & Asymmetric Threats (UAT) Division at START, University of Maryland, applies behavioral and social sciences, geospatial analysis, and adversary decision modeling to the full spectrum of unconventional and asymmetric national and homeland security challenges. Our research produces empirical databases, predictive tools, and practitioner-ready assessments for government agencies, law enforcement, and first responder communities. We translate rigorous science into products that inform operations, policy, and workforce development. UAT is, at its core, a member of the irregular warfare and asymmetric threats community - the analytical infrastructure that community depends on to understand, anticipate, and counter the full range of threats that fall outside the conventional military and law-enforcement playbook.
