International and Regional Architecture Reports

Project Details

Abstract:

This continuing project evaluates the existing status and vulnerabilities of the national radiological/nuclear (RN) detection architecture (NDA) for select countries in Asia following a previous effort focusing on 42 countries in the European region. The NDAs consider individual and collective detection and interdiction capabilities and the identification of current vulnerabilities and gaps in air, land, and maritime illicit (RN) trafficking pathways for specific countries. The concept also considers the security, political, technological, and economic context in which such capabilities exist, or potentially could exist. Additionally, the research identifies and evaluates options to improve country-specific NDAs through a series of simulated trafficking scenarios of illicit RN material.
